This primarily agricultural region lies in the north-west of Victoria and is dominated by the Murray River. The Mallee region adjacent the South Australia border in the west a major wheat farming area. Only a small number of country towns dot the landscape. Historical towns along the river carry remnants from the days when the river was a significant part in an inland transport network. The is a region where the green mountains and valleys of southern Victoria make the transition to the drier, semi-arid countryside that is typical of most parts of inland Australia. Visitors will find mostly river based activities with houseboats, paddlewheel steamers, water-skiing, river bank camping and fishing. Several Golf and Country Clubs offer good golf courses.
