Victoria West Coast Tours And Holidays

This region of Victoria has some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Australia. It is best known for the Port Campbell National Park with the eroded formations of the 12 Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge.

The Victorian West Coast is a coastal strip that extends west along the coastline from Melbourne to the South Australia border and  inland to the Hamilton/Glenelg Highway. The Great Ocean Road, one of Australia's iconic landmarks, runs from Torquay on Port Phillip Bay, to Warrnambool approximately half way to the South Australian border.

The west coast region is home to small resort towns and fishing fleets. The Otway Ranges offer bushwalks, forests and waterfalls.

Places To Go & Things To See On The West Coast

Anglesea is well known as a kangaroo habitat. The local golf course is a favourite habitat which makes putting a bit tricky! There are wildflower displays from August through November. Enjoy great coastal views from the lighthouse at nearby Aireys Inlet.

Lorne enjoys good beaches, a moderate Mediterranean type climate and sheltered swimming beaches, all of which makes it popular due to its proximity to Geelong and Melbourne. Visit Erskine Falls, enjoy walks and mountain bike rides in the Angahook-Lorne State Park and take in coastal views from Teddy's Lookout.

Apollo Bay is an attractive little village and fishing port, popular with arts and crafts people who have relocated to Apollo Bay. This is a good base for exploring the pristine Cape Otway. Nearby Mariners Lookout has coastal views and the Otway Range has bushwalking trails.

Port Cambell adjoins the famous 12 Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge and is set on a spectacular gorge. Follow the Shipwreck Trail for some local history. Visit the nearby attractions at Glenhample Homestead, Gibsons Steps, Blowhole, Grotto and London Bridge which is no longer a bridge as the centre of the arch has collapsed.

Warrnambool is the major town of the west coast region with whale watching at Logan's Beach from May to October. Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum has some of the local history. Visit the nearby Hopkins Falls, Proudfoots Boathouse at Hopkins River and try the Mahogany Ship Walking Track.

Port Fairy is a quaint fishing village with many historic buildings classified by the National Trust and a well known Fisherman's Wharf. There is a popular Folk Festival in March. Nature lovers will enjoy the seal colony on nearby Lady Julia Percy Island.

Portland lays claim to being the oldest town in Victoria, with a history linked to the days when whaling was a major industry. The town is now a mixture of historic and modern industry. The nearby Cape Nelson State Park has some fine walks and an historic lighthouse.
